Scion tC coming to OpenRoad Auto in September — new models unveiled at New York auto show

by carla on Apr.05, 2010, under SCION, Toyota, new models

SCION the automotive brand that maximizes personal expression, will be coming to OpenRoad Toyota Richmond and OpenRoad Toyota Port Moody in September 2010, and at the New York International Auto Show last week, two new models of Scion were unveiled. The 2011 tC is scheduled to arrive in OpenRoad dealerships later this fall, while the iQ will go on sale in early 2011.

SCION all about personalization. Upgrades and accessories can be added to any SCION, from unique wheels, to shift knobs and sport pedals to satellite radio systems and a broad selection of TRD (Toyota Racing Development) performance enhancements.

New 2011 Scion tC Sports Coupe Adds Power, Performance

scion-tc-3-450x182The second-generation tC emerges with an aggressive new look, increased driving performance, and a more premium feel. The new design of the 2011 tC has a helmet-inspired cabin shape and protruding fender flares, complemented by a sleek front grille and projector headlamps. The cabin has been lengthened and the reclining rear seats split 60/40, providing more storage capacity. The panoramic moonroof remains standard in the new tC.

With an all-new 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with dual VVT-i that generates 180 horsepower, the 2011 tC has 19 more than the previous model, and 11 additional lbs.-ft of torque. In addition to increases in power, the new engine delivers an increase in fuel economy all while lowering emissions.

Key safety features include standard Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control (TRAC), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).  Active front-headrests and eight airbags are also standard, including both driver and front-passenger knee airbags.

All-new 2011 Scion iQ Defines Premium Micro-Subcompact

scion_iq_concept_2-448x300Meeting the needs of a new trendsetting generation of urban drivers, the iQ succeeds at taking big ideas and concentrating them into a small package. Made possible by intelligent and functional packaging, the iQ is three-door hatchback that can deftly manoeuvre through city traffic.

Its overall length of only 120.1-inches (3,050 mm), width of 66.1-inches (1,679 mm), and short front and rear overhangs create a confident stance that still allows the iQ to fit into virtually any urban parking scenario.

The iQ’s functional “3+1” seating equates to the world’s smallest four-passenger vehicle. With the driver’s and front-passenger’s seats being slightly off set, this innovative seating arrangement allows for one adult behind the front passenger and a child, small package, or pet behind the driver.

The iQ is small in size but large on safety, with features like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Traction Control (TRAC).

Lexus debuts premium compact hybrid at New York Auto Show

by carla on Mar.09, 2010, under Toyota, new models

All-New Lexus CT 200h Premium Compact Hybrid Makes North American Debut at
2010 New York International Auto Show
 Only Dedicated Hybrid Vehicle in the Premium Compact Segment
 1.8L Four-Cylinder Engine Paired with Lexus Hybrid Drive
 Engineered for Dynamic Handling and Agility
TORONTO, ON ˆ March 3, 2010 ˆ The all-new Lexus CT 200h premium compact
hybrid will be on display for the first time in North America at the 2010
New York International Auto Show March 31 through April 11. The sporty and
versatile five-door, which had its global premiere at the 2010 Geneva Auto
Show today, will be Lexus‚ second dedicated hybrid and fifth hybrid vehicle
in the Canadian line-up.
„The high standard of luxury, style and driving experience Lexus buyers have
come to expect from us, combined with hybrid technology, makes the Lexus CT
200h the first hybrid offering in the growing premium compact segment,‰ said
Larry Hutchinson, Director of Lexus. „The CT 200h is for the discerning,
environmentally conscious buyer unwilling to compromise on quality.‰
The Lexus CT 200h evolved from the LF-Ch concept unveiled at the 2009
Frankfurt Motor Show and also shown at the 2010 Canadian International Auto
Show, and was styled with optimum aerodynamic efficiency. Its size,
packaging and hybrid technology meet the requirements of the discerning,
environmentally-conscientious consumer in the emerging premium compact
market. It offers no compromise on the quality, refinement and driving
pleasure which hallmark the progressive luxury inherent in every Lexus.
Lexus has offered consumers hybrid powertrain technology since 2005.
Marking the introduction of Lexus Hybrid Drive technology to the premium
compact segment for the first time, the all-new CT 200h not only reinforces
the company‚s clear leadership in hybrid technology, but also the unrivalled
breadth of Lexus models available as a hybrid.
The CT 200h features a 1.8-litre gas engine with Variable Valve Timing with
intelligence (VVT-i), a high performance battery, power control unit,
transmission with an electric motor generator, a power split device to
re-allocate power from the engine and electric motor generator according to
operational requirements.
Four drive modes enhance the capabilities of the CT 200h‚s Lexus Hybrid
Drive technology and change the rate of throttle opening for a given
throttle-pedal angle. EV mode allows for ultra-quiet running on electric
motor power alone. Normal mode has an essentially linear throttle response
while Eco mode reduces throttle response relative to the pedal angle and
adjusts air conditioning settings to emphasize fuel economy.
The new CT 200h has been specifically developed to combine superior handling
agility and a sporty driving experience with the ride comfort expected of
any Lexus. The Sport mode provides a more responsive throttle and modifies
the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) settings to give a faster response to
driver inputs.
In the interest of maximum fuel efficiency, particular attention has been
paid to the aerodynamic efficiency of every aspect of the CT 200h‚s design.
The front and rear corners have been pulled in tight to improve the flow of
air down the sides of the vehicle and minimize wind turbulence within the
wheel arches. The sides of the cabin have been tapered, the rear edge of the
roof lowered and even the lower body painstakingly detailed to optimize
airflow. Completing the look are available, unique 17-inch alloy wheels and
blue badging specific to Lexus hybrid vehicles.
The interior offers unprecedented levels of refinement in this segment.
Efficient and elegant, the cabin combines superior ergonomics with
hand-crafted, premium quality materials to create an outstanding driving
environment. The extensive use of metallic finishes and dark, soft touch
materials reinforces the luxury experience.
Despite the compact package, the CT 200h does not compromise interior
roominess. Its long, 102-inch wheelbase offers front and rear seat passenger
accommodation that is amongst the most spacious in the segment.
„The Lexus CT 200h shows our commitment to pushing the boundaries of
innovation, technology and design and maintaining our leadership position in
the luxury hybrid market,‰ said Hutchinson. „Luxurious interior and exterior
styling meets exceptional fuel economy and ultra-low emissions to create an
unparalleled driving experience.‰
