BMW 4 Series features plenty of changes for 2018 model year
Launched in 2013 to replace the two-door 3 Series, the 4 Series has proved to be a popular product for BMW getting a mid-cycle refresh and being released as a 2018 model. The vehicle will continue to be sold as a coupé, convertible and grand coupé.
The design changes are fairly significant, particularly at the front where the lower air intakes have grown much larger and appear more contoured than on the outgoing car. All variants receive new bi-LED headlights, adaptive functionality optional, as well as LED foglights as standard. The rear apron has been styled to match the front with angled contours wrapping around each tailpipe.
In terms of the cabin, Oliver Heilmer, BMW head of interior design had the following to say about the revisions:
“The interior of the BMW 4 Series family delights with its own unique blend of sportiness and elegance. There is the distinctly sporty flair of the driving environment and then there are the high-class materials and long, graceful lines greeting the occupants in both the front and rear.”
A glossy panel now covers the centre console, and three new leather colours are available: Midnight Blue Dakota, Cognac Dakota and Ivory White Dakota. As before, an M Sport accessory package may be bundled at purchase.
On the performance side, the coupé and gran coupé feature an upgraded damping and steering system resulting in less body roll, more stability and even better steering feel. Two TwinPower Turbo engines are offered, making 248 horsepower on the 430i trim and 320 hp on the 440i. All vehicles come with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission except for 440i coupés that may get a six-speed manual equipped at no extra cost.
