OpenRoad launches #DriveforCancer with plans to give a local family the drive of a lifetime during the Diamond Rally
Prize for largest donor includes chauffeured Rolls-Royce and overnight stay in Whistler.
VANCOUVER, B.C. (May 15, 2015) – The MacKenzie family stopped by the BMW Store today to check out the supercharged 2015 BMW 650i xDrive Cabriolet they’ll be cruising in to Whistler during the 2015 Diamond Rally on May 30th as part of OpenRoad’s #DriveforCancer fundraiser benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation.
The MacKenzie family is no stranger to cancer. When Sarah MacKenzie was diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer in 2011, it shook her entire family. The mother of two young boys was facing the unknown. Though initial treatment was successful, her cancer soon recurred. Fortunately for Sarah, her care team at the BC Cancer Agency is among world-leaders in ovarian cancer research and she was recently presented the option to take part in clinical trials to treat the cancer recurrence.
Sarah has had an overwhelmingly positive response to the clinical trial drug to date. She is doing well and is able to enjoy precious moments with her two young boys. She is so thankful for the incredible care and access to clinical research at the BC Cancer Agency. Even faced with the ups and downs of Sarah’s cancer journey, the MacKenzies have been resolute in their commitment to the BC Cancer Foundation.
“OpenRoad’s commitment to the BC Cancer Foundation is encouraging to patients like me who are alive today thanks to the donor-funded cancer research being done in our own backyard. I feel like OpenRoad is celebrating my good health by treating us to a weekend of luxury in the Diamond Rally,” said Sarah MacKenzie. “Through the #DriveforCancer campaign, OpenRoad hopes to raise a minimum of $10,000 for cutting-edge new treatments that can help more BC residents like Sarah. Funds will also benefit the BC Cancer Foundation’s 2015 Inspiration Gala to bring life-saving immunotherapy clinical trials to cancer patients in BC within the next 18-months.”
OpenRoad is offering an appealing incentive to encourage donations to the #DriveforCancer cause. The largest donor will be awarded a chauffeured trip for two in a Rolls-Royce to Whistler and an overnight stay at the Four Seasons Resort.
