This is the stuff dreams are made of.
Porsche enthusiasts and exotic car fans alike recently had a chance to see what can only be described as a unicorn thanks to Porsche Centre Langley.
At an exclusive unveiling event last week, Langley’s newest luxury car dealership and the second-only official Porsche Centre in the Lower Mainland treated guests with an opportunity to get up close and personal with one of only nine hundred and eighteen Porsche 918 Spyder plug-in E-hybrid supercars.
The 918 is a mid-engine hybrid-electric supercar powered by a 4.6L V8 608hp, with two electric motors producing an additional 279hp. This means a combined horsepower rating of 887 hp. Onboard is a 6.8kWh Lithium-ion battery pack, allowing the car to run up to19 kms in electric-mode alone.
The top speed? An impressive 350 km/hr on hybrid power, or up to 150 km/hr in electric vehicle mode.
Car and Driver Magazine recorded the 918’s acceleration times from 0-60mph (96 km/hr) in 2.2 secs, 0-100 mph in 4.9 secs, and 0-180 mph in 17.5 secs.
In essence, the 918 Spyder can accelerate to 100 mph faster than most sports cars can make it to 60 mph.
The quarter mile flashes by in 9.8 seconds, making it a true sub-10 second car for those who want bragging rights at the drag strip.
Setting the mood for champagne and caviar dreams, the Porsche Centre Langley, the event was also catered by Savory Chef who served Veuve Clicquot champagne, Norther Divine sustainable caviar, and various other luxurious small bites.
Another highlight almongst the cars was the stunning Fazioli F228 Piano, finished in California Walnut, that was being played by a band. This hand built piano carried a cool price tag of a $290,000!
When it came time to unveil the 918 Spyder, General Manager Aly Jiwani took the stage and explained, “The price is a “low” $1,000,000. But even if you want a 918 Spyder, every single car worldwide is sold out”.
Jiwani announced how proud Porsche Centre Langley was that this particular 918 Spyder was sold to a local Langley resident who is also an avid car collector.
“I’m happy to say that this car is going to stay in its home right here in Langley”, said Jiwani.
