Porsche Rally 2019
Every rally needs a starting line, in the case of Porsche Rally what better place to wave the flag than the lower mainland’s sole premier Porsche dealer 3 years in a row. On June 22 our lot served as the grid for over 100 cars to congregate and commence the 2019 Porsche Rally
The weather looked threatening to dry roads and solid tire grip but eventually the sun burned its way through the pacific northwest clouds to shine some warm light on a convoy of Porsches thundering up the Sea to sky Highway. Everything from widebody 997s to a mint 356 roadster clad in Porsche Rally stickers. After a quick rest at Chances Casino in Squamish the battalion of high-performance Porsches made its way from the top of Howe Sound into the gorgeous peaks of Garibaldi and Whistler and eventually into the Pemberton valley. Just outside of Pemberton a 2568-foot strip of runway awaited the group at Pemberton Airport for some action-packed drag racing.
After some lunch and a small spectacle from the Porsche Rally’s helicopter team the cars once again fired to life and paraded the runway like sharks circling their prey. After a quick group staging and flag setup groups of 10 cars were sent down the runway to line up and drop the hammer in one of the best settings you could imagine.
It had been a long day of driving and racing and the sun began to teeter west towards the horizon as the runway was closed and everyone departed for the final stop of the day at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. The Open Road racing crew loaded up the Gt3 Cup Car and headed out for a night of good food, music, and a special guest at the awards ceremony in Whistler.
That’s right, to celebrate the rally Porsche Canada was kind enough to lend us a pre production 992 to showcase for the evening and give out VIP clients a glimpse of what’s to come for the historic 911 chassis.
On day 2 of Porsche Rally our team joined a group of friends and the organizers of Porsche Rally Craig Stowe and his lovely wife Nadia for a drive through the Duffy Lake loop. The day would be split by a fantastic lunch stop at Fort Berens Winery in Lillooet BC. There is so much to say about a drive like that but we will save you the time and let the beautiful photos do all the talking…or typing.
Porsche Centre Langley would like to thank everyone involved from the sponsors to the volunteers, the Porsche Rally Staff, our vendors that did an amazing job and our in-house staff who helped keep everything pointed in the right direction. We are looking forward to Porsche Rally 2020 and we cannot wait to see you all there!
Thanks for driving with us!
