Final Four Event 2019

Bellevue Final Four Event 2019

Bentley, Lamborghini, McLaren, Rolls-Royce Seattle, part of OpenRoad Northwest in Bellevue, have teamed up with J.P. Morgan to provide customers with a unique driving experience for the Final Four Drive Event in March. All four supercar brands were available for participants to experience their respective motorsports pedigrees and unparalleled road handling in a VIP street drive setting.

Participants were able to privately test drive the latest supercars with a designated product expert to demonstrate each vehicle, and they enjoyed post-drive refreshments. The vehicles present at the event included the Bentley Continental GT V8, Lamborghini Urus, McLaren 600LT, and 720S Spyder, and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

B.C. dealership looks south to pump up supercar sales

Written by Albert Van Santvoort  (April 4, 2017)

B.C.’s largest automotive dealership group has taken over the only supercar dealership in Washington state.

The term “supercar” defies easy explanation but is usually applied to powerful elite sports cars or grand tourers, often from high-end makers such as Ferrari (Nasdaq:RACE) or McLaren, which appeal to vehicle enthusiasts and collectors with very deep pockets.

While Craig Stowe, founder of the Luxury and Supercar Weekend, dubbed Vancouver North America’s supercar capital in 2016 for having the highest number of supercars per capita, sales growth may have peaked.

Scotiabank’s (TSX:BNS) Global Auto Report released last month said luxury car sales in B.C. have grown 25% this year. But it warned that growth would moderate as B.C. provincial activity softens.

“I think certainly the growth trajectory has slowed,” said Dimitri Kotsalis, area general manager for OpenRoad Auto Group. “We’re not going to see the kind of increases we’ve seen in that last eight or 10 years. I think we’ll continue to see steady, slower growth but there’s still room to push the needle a little bit further in Vancouver.”

Expected slower growth in B.C.’s luxury and supercar market is causing OpenRoad Auto Group to look south. The group recently bought a Bentley, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce (LON:RR) dealership in Bellevue, Washington.

Washington provides a newer market for the supercar industry, which has only recently started to develop significantly in that state.

OpenRoad saw Washington’s aging population with growing disposable incomes as a market it couldn’t pass up.

Despite the threat of increased trade barriers from the new U.S. president, Kotsalis is optimistic about the stability of the market based on the early days of the new administration.

“So far, what we’ve seen in early days is that the market continues to perform and seems like quite a stable market,” said Kotsalis. “Whether there will be any effect in the future remains to be seen, but for now we’re surely comfortable.”

Supercar sales in B.C. grew at five times the pace of all new car sales in 2016. That has not eaten into new car sales from lower-end brands, Kotsalis said, because supercars are usually bought in addition to, rather than instead of, other vehicles.

Blair Qualey, president and CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of BC, said low import taxes in Canada have contributed to Vancouver’s success in the supercar industry.

Countries like Malyasia and Indonesia have high import taxes to promote sales of domestic car brands. China and Hong Kong have luxury sales taxes that apply to supercars. Canada has neither.

“The supercar retail industry has been swinging way above [its] weight for some time now in the Lower Mainland.”

Top 3 Supercar picks for the 2014 Vancouver International Auto Show

The Vancouver International Auto Show is returning into town this week and I’ve managed to my hands on the advance media preview vehicle list. Here are my top 3 supercar unveilings that I am most excited for at this year’s show!

Audi S8

There’s just something that I love about an uber fast large luxury super sports sedan, and Audi is an expert in this category.

The 520hp 2015 Audi S8 makes its regional debut at this year’s autoshow. Like the more pedestrian A8, it receives some stylistic nips and tucks to both the exterior and interior, along with the expected technology upgrades. Pay particular attention to its amazing new Matrix LED headlights!

BMW i8

Unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the much anticipated plug-in hybrid supercar has finally made its way (in production form) to Vancouver!

This car was first introduced as the BMW Concept Vision EfficientDynamics, and made its silver screen debut in Mission Impossible 4 (part of which was filmed in Vancouver) with Tom Cruise.

With a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an expected all-electric range of 37 kms, BMW conservatively estimates a 0-100 km/hr time of 4.4 seconds. A 3-cylinder 1.5-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo range extender engine eliminates pure electric car range anxiety. When combined with the eDrive technology the system produces a whopping 362hp and 420 ft-lbs of torque.

The everyday driving range of the i8 with a full tank of gas and a full charged battery is expected to be more than 500 kms in COMFORT mode.

McLaren 650S

Now this is something ultra-special and I’ve saved the best for last. McLaren has chosen this year’s Vancouver International Auto Show as the place for its North American unveiling of their latest model, the 650S.

Sandwiched in between the 12C and the ridiculously awesome hybrid super supercar P1, the all-new McLaren 650S is not exactly your average middle child.

This midrange model from the British exotic car manufacturer is the brand’s latest bid to compete with Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari at the top of the supercar league.

While the 650S also has a carbon-fibre MonoCell backbone like the 12C, it has been tweaked to shave some extra weight. The 650S’s additional changes and improvements required fitting 25% new components versus the 12C.

With the 641hp/500 ft-lbs of torque from its 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 able to catapult the car from 0-60mph in less than 3 seconds, this latest British supercar is something that you will not want to miss at this year’s show!

The Vancouver International Auto Show opens to the public from Tuesday noon on March 25th, 2014 till Sunday March 30th.

Stay tuned for more of auto show top picks (in different categories) over the next couple of days!
