Vehicle Spotlight: The Genesis GV80

Genesis is going for a home run with the GV80. With their 3-sedan lineup loaded up at the bases, the Korean automaker is set to knock expectations out of the park with their flagship GV80 luxury crossover. Let’s check out the stats.

Starting with the exterior, the GV80 exudes aristocratic confidence only British SUVs can match. The brand’s ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language is on full display with signature quad-LED lights, G-Matrix design elements, and a sweeping parabolic character line that flanks the entire side profile of the vehicle. Classic rear-wheel-drive proportions signal its performance credentials underneath the sheet metal, which is further accentuated with sharp horizontal lines that give the GV80 a muscular stance to match its athleticism.

The Genesis GV80

The GV80’s interior complements the exterior design with a stately appearance that also pampers passengers with high-tech amenities. On the sound front, the GV80 can be optioned with a noise-cancellation feature that neutralizes outside noises entering the cabin with its Lexicon sound system. Visually, the high-definition 14.5” infotainment and 3D digital gauge cluster screens provide clear information to occupants that are also user-configurable. And comfort-wise, an optional ‘Ergo’ Motion Driver seat micro-adjusts itself periodically to reduce pressure points and driver fatigue in extended trips. Advanced driver assistance systems also come standard with every Genesis GV80 to help with driving when desired.

The GV80 is no slouch when it comes to performance. An 8-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive comes standard on every GV80 in Canada, and buyers can choose between the 300 hp turbo inline-4 engine or 390 hp twin-turbo V6 engine as their powerplant. With power going to the rear wheels by default for optimal performance, the 0-100km/h time comes in at 6.9 seconds with the inline 4 engine, while the V6 completes the same sprint in 5.5 seconds.

It’s safe to say Genesis has a home run on its hands with the GV80. The 3-row luxury crossover delivers sophistication and luxury down to the tiniest of details that luxury buyers appreciate and value in this segment. For the aspiring luxury automaker trying to break into the big leagues, the Genesis GV80 is the golden ticket that paves the way for brighter days ahead.
