Club OpenRoad Go-Karting Event
Over 400 members and their friends and family headed to the track to experience Club OpenRoad’s first-ever Go-Karting event. Club members received their exclusive email invitation, and within hours the event was sold out! With such a popular response, Club OpenRoad expanded the one-day event to a full weekend on October 5th and 6th, 2019. It likely comes as no surprise that Club OpenRoad members love to drive.
The event was hosted at TBC Indoor Kart Racing in Richmond. The day began with registration, where members could choose their own racing nicknames, which were later used to track each driver’s racing results. This didn’t stop them from getting creative with nicknames inspired by Mario Kart and favourite car models, making for an entertaining scoreboard.
Drivers then attended a pre-race meeting given by TBC staff, which covered the kart operations and controls, track regulations, flag systems, safety procedures, and a few key driving tips. After the briefing, drivers were fitted for helmets and slipped into special racing suits. After being geared for safety, members climbed into their go-karts for two exciting races on the 13-turn indoor course. The groups alternated between racing and watching all the action from the viewing lounge, where family and friends cheered on their drivers from the balcony.
The fun continued throughout the day as new groups took on their fellow Club OpenRoad members in some friendly, competitive racing. Drivers received printed race results after each race, which tracked the number of laps completed, their fastest lap, and their overall average lap time.
After friends and family compared their racing results and took photos on the TBC podium, they made their way to the clubhouse to cool down with some pop and pizza to feed the post-race adrenaline rush.
