Road Trips Do's and Don'ts

It’s officially road trip season again! Before you go, here are some road trip do’s and don’ts to keep in mind.

DO: Get Your Car Serviced

Car on Road

The most important task before any road trip would be to take your car in for an inspection. Tire checks, light checks, air conditioning refresh, and battery inspections can all be done at your local dealership. Most of OpenRoad’s dealerships are currently offering “Road Trip Ready” inspections to get you all set up for your drive ahead.

DON’T: Create Makeshift Accessory Racks

I’ve seen a couple of makeshift bike racks and tow hitches driving down the highway. This is something you should never do! Not only is it bad for your car in the long run, but it is potentially dangerous to other drivers on the road as well. Take your car to a licensed genuine accessory carrier and have properly fitted for any racks or other accessories.

DO: Plan for Gas and Charging Stops

Empty Gas

There is nothing more anxiety-inducing than running low on gas or charge. Plan ahead and take note of any gas stations and electric vehicle charging stations that are along your route. Whether your car takes gas or needs to be plugged in at an electric vehicle (EV) charging station, you should know how far you can get before a refueling stop.

DON’T: Overpack Heavy Luggage

Road Trip Luggage

To make the most out of your fuel, try not to overpack heavy luggage in your trunk. Doing so can cause you to run out of fuel faster. Take only the essentials with you. Less is more when it comes to long drives!

DO: Pack An Emergency Car Tool Kit

What you shouldn’t forget to pack in your car are emergency tools. It’s better to be prepared for anything that may happen when you are a long way from home. Packing a tool kit for your car may come in handy when you least expect it.

DON’T: Leave Your Car Messy Before Driving Out

Save yourself some stress when traveling by minimizing dirt and keeping your car organized. Having a clean interior and exterior will be one less thing to think about so you can concentrate on the road ahead. All our dealerships can give your ride that “new car feel” when you take it in for a detail.

DO: Have Fun!

Road Trip

Road trips are meant to be fun. Whether you are traveling with your friends, family, or by yourself, make sure to enjoy the drive. The journey is just as important as your destination in the end.
